The best thing to do is spread it out and hide in different locations.

Burglar alarms occassionally work for kids and amatuers, but somebody that really wants your stuff isn't slowed by them unless the alarm signals on locations armed guards. I assume you don't want to go in for that kind of security. I call them "feel good electronics".

Mght want to consider a safe also for your most valuable things. There's always a response time with any burgler alarm, no matter how good a one you get. Even a half-assed burgler will realize that he has some time between the time the alarm goes off and someone shows up to grab as much as he can and effect his get away.

Exactly my point.

Even monitored ones are no better than the service you contract with....who hire minimum wage employees to do the monitoring.

True Story:

I was putting some windows in a house in Knoxville, TN some years back.....guy had a BA....I asked him if there were sensors in the window sashes ( because I have to take them out and install in the new window ), he said "No....just the motion detector inside.....I had MY burglary, THEN put the system in"....

So, lunch time comes, and I tell him I'm going down the road for a burger....I get back, and apparently he went to lunch too.....and locked the doors. So, I just take out another window, hop thru and walk down the hall to unlock the front door so I can install my new window ( I have to work inside and out both ).....and set off the fool alarm in the process.

RING RING CLANG RING CLANG goes the fool thing for 5 minutes....and not one soul in the neighboring houses bothers to even look out ( if they are home ).

Guy gets back bit later, and I tell him I set off his alarm. "Well....the alarm company ( Pony Express of Knoxville ) is supposed to send someone out then"

So about 2pm....I ask him if he called the alarm company to report it false, or did they send somebody out ? "NO.....I didn't call, and they haven't sent anbody" ( NOW, this is almost 2 hours later )

As I finish up about 5pm, I ask again...."NO !!! they didn't come !! " ( and I can tell he is sorta POed....ahahahahaaa ) so I add "Well.....maybe their PONY died"......and I exited stage left....ahahahaaaaa....

Oh yeah.....he was paying 59.95/mo for the monitoring service......

They have some alarm systems that you can buy that you set the autodialer to call whatever numbers, like your cell for example.

I was just poking around on Google for a couple of minutes and can't find them, but I remember seeing tear gas boxes that mount above doorways and windows. Basically, they will dump the entire contents if someone breaks into your home and incapacitate the intruder. Maybe someone else knows a link to them.

Just another idea.

How does that teargas alarm system work? Do you have a remote control disabler? I don't think you would walk up to it and use a key, because it should be squirting out if you get near it.
